Building character and leadership through sport

Founded in 1928, Camp Ak-O-Mak is the world’s first swimming and sports camp for girls. Located 300 km north of Toronto on beautiful Ahmic Lake in the Parry Sound region, we offer girls ages 7 – 16 competitive and instructional programs in swimming, open water swimming, triathlon and sprint canoe/kayak racing as well as running, biking and other land sports. Our campers come from Canada, the US and other countries from all over the world.
We pride our self in offering an authentic, rustic, Canadian camp experience that is literally “unplugged” (no cell phones, no laptops). Our campers train in a beautiful, wilderness setting and live in wooden cabins with no electricity. We assign 8-12 girls of the same age to a cabin along with two or three counsellors. We offer a rustic experience to help campers focus on and enhance their appreciation for the beautiful nature around them without any distractions. For some, it will be the very first time they do so!
Focused on Empowering Girls

We believe the all-girl environment is a critical component to the success of our program. It gives girls the opportunity to learn new skills without the pressures of being judged by the opposite sex. Girls with different skill levels and body types can achieve their goals in an enviorment that is supportive of their varied physical and emotional stages of development without feeling self-conscious in the presence of boys.
Swim, Run, Bike, Paddle

Unique to Camp Ak-O-Mak are our pillar sports – competitive swimming, open-water swimming, triathlon and competitive paddling. Our longer camp sessions (3, 4 and 7 weeks) permit campers to train for and compete in off campus events in these sports. Visiting professional coaches, many of whom are Olympic and nationally ranked, are invited to instruct in our pillar sports. Additionally, we offer 25 other sports and activities for skill development and FUN!!
A sports camp with all the fun of camp activities

While we are all about sports, our campers also enjoy fun-filled traditional camp activities. At Ak-O-Mak, campers will make new friends and bond with counsellors at campfires, sing-songs, skit nights, through cabin living, canoeing, team competition, and day trips. It’s a time for all to share the excitement and the laughter of these treasured moments.
