Congratulation to Jocelyn our Athletic Director!!
Hi all,
Today I did the Philadelphia Marathon along with 30 000 other people. My first and only marathon outside of the 24 Ironman's I did was around 1989. What a difference the years have made. Walking to the race start with 1000's of people it was impossible to get lost and running with 30 000 people was really fun. The crowds cheering and music were great, especially the Rocky music as we ran up his hill. With the Paris attack there was extra security all weekend which is very sad, but important and a big change from years ago. I felt good for the first 10 miles and was on pace for a 3:20 marathon. Then my right quad cramped. At the half I was on pace for a 3:26. Then my other quad cramped. At mile 18 I was on pace for a 3:32. Then my right hamstrings cramped. So I fought on and did what I could finishing in 3:40, qualifying for the 2017 Boston Marathon by 20 minutes. I am very happy to qualify for Boston and I think it was a respectable performance for the limited training. Blair kept riding by saying you are on pace until mile 18, then he just rode by trying to encourage me. All in all it was a great experience!
