Before triathlons gained the mainstream popularity they have today, campers at Camp Ak-O-Makwere already swimming, running and canoeing in competition with their brother camp, Chikopi. Today, our Triathlon Training Campis well established, and amongst the finest coaching centers for young women in Ontario, and across Canada.
Camp Ak-O-Makis about building character through sport. We dwell in an atmosphere of self-empowerment, with coaches that teach our girls how to tackle a triathlon of any distance. Engaging in practice events like aquathlons, duathlons, transition events and mountain bike courses, our Triathlon Training Campstaff teach the fundamentals of the sport, with the added component of competition. Our campers are coached and supervised by retired Olympians, past world-class athletes who are sports experts, and who truly understand what it takes to be a champion.
The Triathlon is an endurance event that consists of swimming, cycling, and running, in immediate succession, over various distances. In an event situation, triathletes compete for the fastest overall completion-time, including timed “transitions” between swimming, biking and running segments. The Triathlon Training Campat Camp Ak-O-Makhas its focus on the full spectrum of performance training: general strength and conditioning; endurance improvement; aerobic development; and overall training efficiency. The key is consistency, and our coaches are always stressing progressive training. Our objective is to train and coach our young women into becoming well-rounded athletes, as well as successful competitors.
The Camp Ak-O-Makdifference combines demanding training with fun and enjoyment. Coaches at our Triathlon Training Camphelp campers improve transition times and performance levels using a variety of training techniques and activities. We use practice events like aquathlons (two-stage races starting with swimming and followed by running) and duathlons (running, cycling, running). We employ both mountain bike obstacle courses, and road bike instruction to improve the cycling component of the triathlon.
Camp Ak-O-Makis located in the heart of cottage country in central Ontario(3.5 hours north of Toronto, Canada). The camp experience is all about building character through sport - all in an atmosphere leadership, development, self-improvement and pure fun! Our young women develop long lasting friendships in an all-girl camp environment. They are inspired to become leaders, and to realize true sportsmanship.
