Camp Update: July 13-16, 2022

On Wednesday, July 13th we had to say goodbye to our lovely two-week campers. We enjoyed their energy and enthusiasm for camp and will miss them dearly. Our four-week campers have settled into a smaller camp and are enjoying the special activities that will fill their remaining two weeks. We all paddled over to Ahmic Lake Lodge on Wednesday afternoon for another ice cream adventure. We had our cones in the sun and swam at the beach before paddling back to camp just in time for dinner. After dinner, the whole camp headed up to the Pavillion for a special movie night! The feature presentation was A Cinderella Story starring Hilary Duff.

On Thursday, the campers had a morning bustling with activities! Swim practice and sailing were the highlights of the morning. In the afternoon, Coach Brett instructed a running clinic helping us with technique and proper activation and cool-down practices. After the clinic, the campers faced off in a 1-Mile Challenge with their team comp teams. The competitive spirit was alive and well at Ak-o-mak that day! After the race, we all headed down to the waterfront for an afternoon of choice paddling. The weather was beautiful and sunny and the lake was flat and calm – perfect for paddling. The campers had their choice of heading out in the racing boats, paddleboards, sea kayaks, and pleasure canoes. What a fun day out in the sun!

On Friday, we had another beautiful sunny day at camp, the weather really has been phenomenal! In the morning Cabins One and Two faced off in a synchronized swimming competition. After much deliberation by head staff, Cabin Two emerged as the winner! In the afternoon, we had another special event – The Amazing Race. This event is based on the TV show and the campers are paired up and travel to seven countries around the camp to compete in a variety of challenges. They completed the Tour de France on mountain bikes, carried their partners up Mt. Everest, canoed through the Venice Canals and much more. The competition was very fierce and the winners received some candy as a reward for their hard work.

On Saturday we had another morning of sailing and canoeing – two classic camp activities. In the afternoon, the girls had another self-defence session with the lovely Rosie. We are so grateful for the beautiful weather we have been having and are just delighted as we see all the campers thrive at their sports and in their friendships. Camp truly is a magical place!
