Camp Update: July 30th-August 2nd 2022

On Saturday July 30th we had another lovely sunny day at camp! In the morning Cabin One & Two had their first session in the racing canoe and kayaks. They were out in C4’s, K4’s and K1’s. It was awesome seeing them all try something new out on the water. Cabin Three had their first session out on the sailboats, the wind was just perfect for learning this fun new sport. Cabin four practised their canoeing skills and gunnel bobbed while Cabin Five showcased their dance moves in a Zumba class. Cabin Six had a diving class and they all went off the diving tower, what brave campers we have this session! In the afternoon, we began our team comp activity, the theme for this session is time travel. The campers were divided into four teams and created skits, songs, and flags that highlighted their teams individual strengths. The teams are: The Rescodes, The Fatherhood of the time travelling Codes, Rambo Restoration, and The Jet Stones.

On Sunday, Cabin One went sailing, Cabin Two competed in the tennis tournament, Cabin Three had a synchro competition, Cabin Four went Mountain Biking, and Cabin Six played volleyball. That afternoon we had our colour run. This event is a camp favourite, the campers embark on a 5km fun run where colour is thrown at them at every kilometre marker. The campers were very enthusiastic and warmed up for their run with a camp wide dance party. After the run we all jumped in the lake in our colourful clothing – it was a wonderful day at camp.

On Monday, we had a special guest – Olympian Sheila Reid. Sheila competed in the London 2012 Olympics in the 5000m track event. She led us through a running clinic and then took us on a group run on the trails around camp. After our run, she delivered a keynote speech that touched on the importance of overcoming obstacles and staying true to yourself while competing in sports. All of the campers asked wonderful questions and truly enjoyed this experience. In the afternoon, the campers had the option of strength training or stroke correction before we all headed to the pavilion for a team-comp singing competition. What a wonderful few days at camp! We cannot believe how fast this session is flying by, it seems like the campers just arrived yesterday.  We are looking forward to another action-packed and activity-filled week here at camp.
