Camp Ak-O-Mak has a formula for success and it works! We inspire our campers to succeed by challenging them to stretch beyond their comfort zone. We empower them for the future. Our specialized sports camp in Ontario, which combines water and land sports, maintains a camp tradition familiar to experiences across the country with campfire get-togethers, performance nights, wilderness outings and much more.

While sports and physical activities are the pillars of our program, we always remember the most fundamental element of summer camp: FUN! As an all girl’s sports camp, Camp Ak-O-Mak is renowned for sending girls home with a greater sense of self-esteem which is genuinely earned.

Each girl is inspired to recognize her potential for achievement. Then, “with a little help from our friends”, she is supported and encouraged to overcome her unique challenges towards realizing her goals. This is learning first hand or “experientially” that time-invested plus effort-exerted leads to success, whether swimming a mile or overcoming homesickness.

Camp Ak-O-Mak is a specialized sports camp recognized internationally as the first competitive swim camp for girls in North America. Our comprehensive programming includes all aspects of swimming, whether competitive, open water and of course, recreational! We have professional coaches who instruct and train our young athletes in the fundamentals of swimming while the girls enjoy the outdoors and the sun! Even girls who have just started swimming are amazed by the improvement in their strokes, their enhanced endurance and overall confidence in the water, thanks to the opportunity for daily instruction.

Camp Ak-O-Mak’s history as a sports camp really speaks for itself. We have trained over 350 all-American athletes, 45 Olympian competitors and hundreds of open-water swimmers. We’re very proud of our 50 m and 25 m pools which are built into the shoreline of Ahmic Lake and free of chlorine! Spend one summer at Camp Ak-O-Mak and you’ll blow your teammates out of the water in September!

Competitive paddling is also a component of our sports camp program, a sport for which swimmers are ideally suited because of their upper body strength. We have been introducing our campers to this thrilling sport for over 50 years! Camp Ak-O-Mak continues to be a member of the Ontario Paddling Association and is recognized as an official Canoe Club.

All campers are also taught the fundamentals of pleasure canoeing because it’s one of our main means of transport at camp! We also offer competitive sprint canoeing and kayak racing at our sports camp, which allows campers to participate in a unique team sport.

Participants in our 7-week, 4-week or 3 week sessions may well be eligible to participate in a Regatta and experience the thrill of racing against other canoe clubs. Sailing and windsurfing add an additional boost of fun and enjoyment to a great summer.

For competitive triathlon training, there is no better place than Camp Ak-O-Mak. We have been doing triathlons in various combinations long before the sport became popular. Our traditional Camp Ak-O-Mak /Chikopi Triathlon (with our brother boys’ camp) is an annual favourite for all ages and abilities!

Camp Ak-O-Mak sports camp philosophy is to keep the (triathlon)training FUN with proven practice events like aqua-thons and mountain biking obstacle courses. Interested campers are encouraged to join us when we participate in the Kids of Steel Triathlon in Barrie, Ontario.

Camp Ak-O-Mak is located on 400 beautiful acres – along the lake – with forest and wetlands – cross-country wilderness trails – and miles of running and biking paths. Our grass playing fields round out a sports camp that is inclusive and complete – for soccer, softball, archery, fencing and more! Join us for a summer and cherish the memories forever!
